Our STEM Project for 2020

Our Kit Car Project has been put on hold temporarily due to Covid 19 restrictions.

 Electric Kit Car

In November 2019 we announced an exciting new challenge.  We will be building our own Electric Kit Car which pupils hope to race at Ford Dunton on the 4th July 2020.

The project will be a wonderful initiative where pupils will not only be refining their design and technology skills, but also their teamwork and problem solving skills which will be put to the test.

The car will look like the picture below when it's completed ............. and an example of how we can transform it for race day!

Congratulations to Amber in Year 4 for her winning design for our car logo.  The lightning  bolts and dove with the olive branch summed up our hopes for the car and our school family.

We are in the process of asking local businesses to help fund our car project which the Year 5 children will begin building after the Spring Term half term.  To this end we have set up a ‘Just Giving’ crowdfunding page to help provide some sponsorship towards our cause to give the children an extra dimension to their learning.  Do you know of any business that can help us?  We can place their company name/logo on the car when we attend any events. Additionally if you would like to help sponsor us all donations will be gratefully received.

Please help us inspire our engineers of tomorrow by going to -

 Wednesday 4th March 2020

Tomas and Harry from Imperial Racing Cars came today to spend time with some of our Year 5, instructing and helping them on how to build the car.  Our pupils spent the afternoon enthusiastically working together and managed to construct the body of the car.  All Year 5 pupils will take the turn in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to Amber in Year 4 for her winning design - The Lightening Doves.  See above.

Tomas and Harry from Imperial Racing Cars visited our school on Friday.  They talked about engineering and how important it is to work as a team.  The children had to use paper cups to make the highest and the most balanced structure and, as they all worked well in their teams, they successfully completed the task.

Car Project News

Parental Assistance

We are now looking for more parents to join the team. We are very fortunate that a team from Imperial College will be helping us build the car, along with some parents and now we are looking for parents who can help with publicity (writing press releases, photos to record the progress of the project, social media posts etc), graphic design or general problem solving. If you think that you can help in any of these areas, or just want to be involved in the project, please speak to the staff in the school office who will inform Ms Mahon, Mr Kimber and Mrs Hinc of your interest.

Business Sponsorship (and parents if possible)

We are also in the process of asking local businesses to help fund our car project which the Year 5 children will begin building in the next few weeks. Announcing the Race Date!

Save the date: We will be racing our car at Ford Dunton on Saturday 4th July 2020. All families are welcome to join the fun and to come along to support the school racing team!

 Friday 10th January 2020

As part of our ‘Building a Car’ initiative we are delighted to launch a competition for the children to design a logo which will be used on the car and racing uniform, along with any documents about the project.

Friday 29th November 2019

During our assembly today we were delighted to welcome ‘The Stig’ from the ‘Top Gear’ television programme. He brought a very important envelope which was opened, in front of the whole school with great anticipation, by Mr Kimber. Inside was a very exciting message entitled CHALLENGE!
